International business travel often takes worktrainweb staff to exciting locations around the globe. Our most recent trip was to the land of the greenest green hills, seamless landscapes, lush forests and cheeky kiwi’s. Yes, it was an SEO seminar in New Zealand, and what a place to learn modern Web Design tips and tricks for our Brisbane based company.
Small businesses, by their very nature, have limited resources to devote to advertising. As changes to traditional marketing stack up, many companies are faced with the choice between a Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) campaign and Social Media Marketing.
From experience I’ve found it helps when clients, collaborative artists, programmers, directors and project managers are up-to-date with the jazz and latest buzz words circling the web design scene. For clients working with their web designers/developers, I stress this to be especially important so that as a client you know how to express your requirements in a website, you know your options and also, you know that you’re investing in the latest technology. Below are some key terms that business owners and web designers alike should know about (it’d be especially scary if your web designer didn’t).
By improving your search engine ranking, you’ll grow your business online presence and gain new customers and keep current ones. There are many things you can do to improve your search ranking without the need of an SEO expert such as the following 5 tips we have put together.
1- Social media connections
Social media (Facebook, Twitter etc) are more important now than ever. It’s more about who and how many people like your website and your content than how many back links your SEO guy can get you from India. It’s also important to utilise the ‘like’ and ‘+1′ buttons everywhere you can to make it easy for people to rate and share your content.
Being on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram is a must! Even if your not interested in social networks, you need some sort of presence. You need to get your business out there.
By the way, we are working on a web platform called lykesit that will change the way people find businesses, their products, services and connections. Lookout for more information in the coming months. In the mean time, visit and +1 lykesit!
2 – Blogging
Blogging is a great way to build up your website’s content – post news about your business as well as thoughts on the industry your business is part of. Try to make at least one post every few weeks. This way you’ll gain regular visitors and its a good way to sell your products and services.
3 – Title tags
Title tags is the text that appears on the tab your currently viewing or on the top of your browser window. Make sure your website’s title tags are relevant to the content thats on the page and contain the main search keywords you want the page to display under.
4 – URLs
One problem with most content management systems is that they don’t create very good URLs for each created page out of the box. URLs need to be simple and easy to read for both humans and search engines. If your using WordPress, you can modify your URLs using the Permalinks settings or get a nice plugin such as Advanced Permalinks or Custom Permalinks. If your using Drupal, you can modify the Path module settings.
5 – Content
Add, modify and update your content constantly. It shows potential customers (and search engines) your business is alive and active and it keeps them coming back!
Most of these tips are hard to do for a lot of people due to time, limited understanding of social media and technical skills. worktrainweb offers not only SEO services, but also content writing and social media management at great monthly prices. We work with our clients to develop the best social media strategy thats the best and most affordable way to build and maintain their social media presence, whether its more consumer/customer based, industry based or both.
